Berwick Electric Relief Fund Created

Berwick Electric Relief Fund Created

13 January 2026

Members of the community who are residential customers of the Berwick Electric Commission (BEC) have an opportunity to receive assistance with their bill payments.

The Berwick Electric Relief Fund has been created through generous donations from members of the community and facilitated through the Berwick and District Lions Club. These funds will support residents experiencing difficulty paying their electric bill.

According to Mayor Mike Trinacty who chairs the Berwick Electric Commission ‘this has come about through the initiative of a couple of concerned citizens who wanted to see a fund created and the support of the Berwick Lions to make it happen, the Electric Commission is proud to help facilitate this and be part of such a wonderful initiative’.

Applicants will be eligible to receive up to $400 on their BEC account. The amounts dispersed will be based on demonstrated need and available funds. The maximum benefit will be $400 per year, per account.

Applications will be accepted from 01 February 2026 and will continue until 30 April 2026 or until the funds are depleted. Applications are available at various locations around Berwick, including the Berwick Food Bank, the Berwick Library, the Evangeline Hub, and Berwick Town Hall.

King Lion Dave Fairfax says ’the model used here is similar to the one used by Nova Scotia Power who partners with the Salvation Army, the Lions are pleased to be part of this Fund as it fits so well with other supports we provide in the community’.

Applications will also be available online through the Town of Berwick’s website at www.berwick.ca. Completed application packages may be emailed to , dropped off at Berwick Town Hall, or placed in the Town Hall secure drop box.

The fund is not a rebate, and an application for help does not guarantee approval. Approval is dependent on funding, and as such, the fund is actively seeking donors who wish to support the Berwick Electric Relief Fund as an ongoing help to the community.

Donations are welcome from the public and cheques should be made out to the Berwick Electric Relief Fund. Cheques can be dropped at the Berwick Town Hall or given to the Berwick Lions Club via King Lion Dave Fairfax. Donations over $20.00 are eligible for a charitable tax receipt.

Please contact Mayor Mike Trinacty, chair of the Berwick Electric Commission at the Berwick Town Hall or King Lion Dave Fairfax at the Berwick Lions Club for more information.
