Economic Development

Early in its history the town was one of the most industrialized communities in the region, with the concentration of several agri-businesses. Local industrialization has waned with global economic changes over the past several decades, but the town remains linked to agri-industry.

The town recognized a modest diversification in industry at Berwick’s industrial park. Evidence shows that Berwick’s residents support industrial growth. Citizens favor the development of industries which have little or no impact on the environment. They place emphasis on new downtown development and revitalization of older commercial sections.

The largest employer within the Town of Berwick is Eden Valley Poultry Inc. Many residents of Berwick are employed are in retail service sector, other major regional employers are Michelin Waterville and CFB Greenwood to which many residents of Berwick commute.
