Our Opportunity

We are looking for a Red Seal Powerline Technician (PLT) to join the Berwick Electric team! Within our unique municipal electric utility, you will immerse yourself in so much more than just live line work. You will be part of the small team of superheroes that maintain and control the BEC hydro system, and you’ll get the amazing opportunity to learn about the operating and maintenance of Berwick’s new Solar Garden. Berwick Electric is currently completing a voltage conversion project in which you will play a vital role.

As a member of this incredible team, you will perform various tasks from live line maintenance and construction to meter installations, tree pruning and so much more! This is a unionized position with the IBEW Local 1928 and requires standby duties and callouts.

Working Conditions require the successful candidate to work around live power, perform heavy lifting, work at heights, and in confined spaces. Health and safety are extremely important and proper training will be provided for all required work. The job is 40 hours per week, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday, and rotating standby shifts.

What we’re looking for:

Qualifications:

High school completion or equivalent.

Red Seal Journeyman Interprovincial Powerline Technician certification.

Prefer 5+ years of experience working as a journey-certified technician.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

Ability to roll up your sleeves as a member of a small and mighty team.

Valid NS Class 3 Driver’s License, with an air brake endorsement.

Experience with rubber glove work.

Experience with hot distribution work.

Must work with a high regard for safety of self and others.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Experience with Microsoft 365.

Excellent knowledge of handheld devices and technology.
