BEC Meter Replacements

A notice from the Berwick Electric Commission (BEC)
The Berwick Electric Commision is currently working to replace meters that are at, or nearing, their expiration date. This is a requirement from Measurement Canada.
All electricity meters installed by utilities in Canada have a predetermined expiry period. When the existing meter seal expires it will be replaced by another tested and inspected meter.
Meter replacement takes approximately 5-10 minutes to complete, and will cause a momentary power interruption. Residents do not need to be home during the replacement process as electrical meters are located on the outside of customers' properties.

Chalk Your Walk: June 27-30

It's time for something new!
Join us in celebrating community with our "Chalk Your Walk" event from June 27-30. We invite residents to channel their inner artist (and child!) by decorating their driveways or sidewalks with sidewalk chalk. Whether it's funny messages, hopscotch, or community spirit, we want to see it all (G-rated, of course).
We'll be giving out random prizes, so send us your photos throughout the weekend!
Don't have a sidewalk or driveway? Join us on Friday, June 28th, at Rainforth Park from 1-3 PM for our family fun afternoon, or message us for suggestions of places to try!
While we try something new, we won't be judging red chairs this season, but we still love to see the community's welcoming spirit.

Splash Pad OPEN for the Season!

June 10, 2024:
After a "soft-launch" last week, we are pleased to share with residents that our Splash Pad is officially open for the season!

The Splash Pad turns on daily at 10 AM, and can be activated by pressing the sensor button in the middle of the splash pad area. The public washrooms are also open for the season!

Our Splash Pad can be found within Rainforth Park, located at 205 Cottage Street.

There is parking available adjacent to the tennis courts, as well as a larger parking lot near the basketball courts.

A reminder that our parks and greenspaces are smoke-free areas, and please no pets, food or drinks on the splash pad.
ENJOY, Berwick!

2024-25 Budget Approved

The Town of Berwick approved the 2024-25 operating and capital budgets at a special Town Council meeting on April 15, 2024.

The balanced budget was approved with a two cent decrease to the residential and commercial tax rates. Council sought community feedback through public information sessions and budget survey. The Town of Berwick’s Council is committed to being fiscally responsible with your tax dollars, while also balancing the needs of the community and maintaining the municipal service levels the Town of Berwick is known for.

- The new residential tax rate will be $1.558 per $100 of assessment value
- The commercial tax rate will be $3.870 per $100 of assessment value

The highlights of the Town of Berwick’s 2024-25 budget include:
- Year 1 of significant upgrades to the Wastewater Treatment Plant
- A new building, with washrooms, at Centennial Park
- A new Office Administrative Coordinator position
- Collaborative projects with the Berwick Volunteer Fire Department, including a new water storage tank and completion of a Portable Pumper Truck

As discussed by Council and Town Staff during the budgetary process, the many factors that impacted the 2024 budget include the following:
- Increased property assessment values from PVSC
- Community feedback
- Rising costs, and the impacts of inflation at all service levels
